The CNCF Sandbox project OpenChoreo has hit 1.0, treating AI agents and GitOps as built-in — including an SRE agent that uses LLMs to suggest incident root causes.

OpenChoreo, an open-source platform for building Kubernetes developer platforms, has reached 1.0 — and it is notable for treating AI agents and GitOps as first-class features rather than afterthoughts. Accepted into the CNCF Sandbox in January 2026, roughly a year after its first commit, the project already counts 785 contributors across 240 organisations.

Agents as platform citizens

OpenChoreo exposes Model Context Protocol servers so AI agents can deploy components, manage configuration and assess platform conditions. It also ships a built-in SRE agent that analyses observability data with large language models to surface probable root causes for incidents, trimming manual troubleshooting.

GitOps from day one

GitOps, powered by FluxCD, is a native interaction model from the first release. For platform teams, OpenChoreo is a concrete example of where internal platforms are heading: declarative delivery plus AI assistance, built in rather than bolted on.
