The 2026 State of AI Agents: 80% of Enterprises Already See Real ROI

A large enterprise survey finds AI agents are already in production and paying off: 57% run multi-stage agent workflows and 80% report measurable economic returns, not just pilots.

If 2025 was the year of AI agent pilots, this survey suggests 2026 is the year they went into production. The 2026 State of AI Agents Report finds that more than half of organisations — 57% — now deploy agents for multi-stage workflows, including 16% running cross-functional processes that span multiple teams.

Beyond experiments

Coding remains the beachhead: nearly 90% of surveyed organisations use AI for coding assistance, and 86% have moved past experimentation into production. Most strikingly, 80% report their AI investments are already delivering measurable economic returns — actual ROI, not projected value or pilot results.

The trajectory is up

Ambition is rising with confidence: 81% intend to pursue more complex implementations in 2026, with 39% targeting multi-step processes and 29% planning cross-functional projects. The direction is clear — agents are graduating from novelty to infrastructure.

At Cloud of Things, we help teams turn trends like this into practical next steps. The gap is widening between teams piloting agents and teams already banking the returns.
